Pete Targett

Born in Accrington, Lancashire. Having spent my formative years in red rose county, at the age of eighteen enlisted for the Royal Air Force where I spent twenty-four incredibly happy years serving my country.

During this time, I had many tours of service including a stint at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire which I enjoyed that much that upon semi-retirement in 2014, I moved back to the County I now call home.

My tours of service included several aircraft variants to include, Tornado, Jaguar, Hawk, Hercules and finally Typhoon. I visited many corners of the world before settling back into life without the need for a daily salute in Spofforth, North Yorkshire.

My interest in dry stone walling came about through my father’s interest in the tradition and once settled in the area I enlisted on a course with the guild and having such an enjoyable time, I kept coming back for more of the same.

My walling is part time as I currently work for Jet2 as a day job as a technical instructor and instructing must be in my make up as I am now instructing with the guild and am proud to of been made a trustee in 2025, something of which I am immensely proud.

The guild is made of people likened to myself who are enthusiastic about preserving these landmark features for future generations.

Outside of work I have a dog, “Robbie,” who some of you may meet and have two sons and a daughter. I most recently became a grandfather and spend my time visiting my grandson and take him walking past the walls of Yorkshire and beyond, giving him all the information he will need when he takes over the mantle from myself in the years to come.
