More than 5000 pupils and their teachers from over 100 schools in Yorkshire attended this year's event to get a sample of what life is all about in the countryside.
As usual, the Guild took stand space and built a sample section of wall, including a squeeze stile and an arched lunkey hole - without exception all the visitors to the stand were looking for telltale signs of glue, not believing our explanation that friction could overcome gravity!
A flash of brilliant inspiration from Woody kept many of the visiting school parties well entertained by suggesting we let them loose on the pile of surplus stones at the side of the stand, instead of playing about with the "Lego" toy stones in our children's area as before
Each group had a different way of tackling their bit of wall, all buzzing around like busy bees, and each being proud as punch at their finished efforts. Unanimous decision - dry stone walling is "cool!"
