Restoration of sections of a retaining wall around the public car park at Castle Bolton for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (we have put in a price for finishing off the building work on the castle but as yet haven't heard anything from the owners!)
In total about 60 metres of wall are to be restored in sections, a task over 3 weeks commencing Wednesday 15 August, when 3 separate groups of YDNPA Volunteers will be working one day each per week, over the 3 week period.
The groups are:
Day one: North West Group volunteers
Day two: Ragged Robin Conservation Section volunteers, assisted by YDSWG members Richard Laidler, Dave Purvis and Paul Adamson
Day three: North East Group volunteers
As you would expect, there are a certain amount of "competitive elements" creeping into the project, but it will be interesting to compare the varying building techniques at the end of the job!
Thursday 16 August 2007 - Ragged Robins & YDSWG team
Old wall taken down, Brian digging out the foundations
Foundation stones in place
Preparing the first course
Interesting precast concrete throughs complete with moss
Section complete and topping stones going on
"Anybody seen what happened to my flask? I left it on the wall..."
Site deserted, who's getting in the first round then?
